The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office has released detailed information concerning 2020 Tax Collection, which will be a bit different than in past years as the sheriff’s office is now collecting both Caldwell County taxes as well as Princeton city taxes.
Bookkeeper Melissa Dockery says 2020 tax bills are due and payable beginning November 1st and will be mailed to the property tax owner, no bills will be mailed to any Escrow or third party companies. She adds there will be a 2-percent discount for taxes paid between November 1st and 30th while taxes paid December 1st through 31st will be face value. All taxes paid between January 1st and 31st will incur a 5-percent penalty while those paid between February 1st and April 15th will incur a 21-percent penalty. At the close of business on April 15th, 2021 all unpaid tax bills will be turned over to County Clerk Toni Watson’s office and will incur larger interest and penalties.
Dockery states taxes may be paid at the office or by mail and accepted forms of payment include cash, check, certified check, or money order, which must be made for the exact amount. She explains those wishing to pay by mail must include a copy of the tax bill or indicate the bill number on the check.
Dockery notes normal hours at the sheriff’s office are Monday through Friday from 8AM until 4PM but beginning November 5th they will open at 7:30AM. Due to the sheriff’s office being closed Election Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, and the day after Thanksgiving they will offer extended hours on Friday, November 20th until 6PM and Monday, November 30th until 6PM, as well as Saturday, November 21st from 8AM until noon.
Dockery states tax bills can now be viewed by clicking here. She explains you will be instructed to login as a guest and can then type in your last name and first name, with a space in between, into the search bar.
