A Caldwell County teen is among the first six winners in Kentucky’s Shot at a Million drawings, the state’s incentive program to encourage residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The local teen is the recipient of a full-ride scholarship.
During an announcement of the winners Friday morning at the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort, Governor Andy Beshear congratulated Adison Sullenger of Princeton.
Adison says she is glad she did the right thing by getting vaccinated against the virus.
Adison, who is 17-years old and entering her senior year at Caldwell County High School, tells the News Edge she was surprised to learn she had won the scholarship, which will allow her to get the education she needs to help others.
She also encourages other teenagers to get vaccinated.
Adison and four other teens from across Kentucky were randomly selected Thursday to receive full-ride scholarships to a Kentucky public college, university, technical, or trade school. In addition, a Lexington woman was the winner of the $1 million prize.
Governor Beshear said the first drawing held Thursday included more than 608,000 entries.
According to the governor, vaccinated Kentuckians still have two more chances to become millionaires or scholarship winners. Beshear says since the deadline to enter for the first drawing, Wednesday, June 30, at midnight, more than 35,000 Kentuckians have entered for the next two drawings. Those drawings will take place July 29 and August 26, with one millionaire and five scholarship recipients, announced the day following each drawing. Those who did not win in the first drawing are still eligible for the final two drawings.
Governor Beshear initially announced the Shot at a Million drawing on June 4. Since then, he says more than 121,700 Kentuckians have received a COVID-19 vaccine.
