Annual Spring Burn Restrictions to Take Affect in February

Fire officials are reminding citizens that statewide burn restrictions will again start up next month.
Princeton Fire Chief Brent Francis says that the time restrictions on open burning in the state of Kentucky happen annually each spring and fall.

He adds that the time restrictions are in place to help reduce the possibility of wild fires.

Chief Francis notes that the regulation mainly has to deal with burning in proximity of wooded areas.

He also reminds citizens that the only thing legal to burn is natural vegetation.

Chief Francis states that those who live within the city limits do have certain nuisance ordinances that deal with fires and could face more fines if the fire creates a nuisance, even if the fire is technically legal to burn.
All fires within 150 feet of a wooded area are only legal between 6PM and 6AM, so long as weather conditions are favorable, from February 15th until April 30th.
