The Princeton Ham Radio Club will conduct a Field Day exercise at the City-County Park in Princeton next weekend.
Vice President Dan Rubino with the local Radio Club says the exercise is a nationwide ham radio open house where amateur radio operators, or “hams”, contact other operators in all 50 states to stimulate disaster preparedness and emergency training.
According to Rubino, the event is sponsored by the American Radio League — a national member association for amateur radio in the United States. He says their mission is to advance the art, science, and enjoyment of amateur radio.
Rubino adds the Field Day exercise will be at the park located at 200 Baker Hill Road in Princeton starting at 1:00 Saturday afternoon, June 26, and running for 24 hours until 1:00 Sunday afternoon, June 27.
He says the event is free and open to the public. Rubino adds those interested may try their hand on the radio (with a coach) to see what ham radio is all about. He says children are also invited and there will be an “education station” for kids to learn how to solder wires together.
