Princeton Electric Plant Board Hosts Customer Appreciation Day (w/PHOTOS)

Sunny skies and mild temperatures created ideal conditions on Wednesday as the Princeton Electric Plant Board celebrated Customer Appreciation Day in recognition of Public Power Week, October 5-11.

General Manager Chris Burton shared with WPKY’s News Edge that celebrating Public Power Week is important because it allows the Princeton Electric Plant Board to show appreciation to its customers.

click to download audioBurton said the Princeton Electric Plant Board has several upcoming projects. He noted they recently received a $1.72 million Department of Energy grant through the Kentucky Energy Cabinet, with preference given due to the impact of the December 2021 tornado. He said the funding will go toward replacing wooden utility poles with steel poles and making other important upgrades.

click to download audioA large number of customers came out for Customer Appreciation Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, gathering at outdoor tables in the front parking lot to enjoy free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks, and snacks. Customers also had the chance to register for a drawing to win a free iPad.

According to Plant Board officials, a recent study of fourteen utilities in western Kentucky found that the Princeton Electric Plant Board has the sixth lowest total monthly cost for 1,000 kilowatt-hours of residential service, including base charges. They said this ranking demonstrates their ongoing commitment to providing electricity that is affordable, reliable, and responsive to the needs of the community.

The Princeton Electric Plant Board, established in 1961, is a community-owned utility that provides electric service to approximately 4,000 customers in Princeton.
