Caldwell Fiscal Court Approves Major Road Projects, Approved for Grant

At Tuesday’s meeting, the Caldwell County Fiscal Court advanced road improvement plans and received an update on a grant supporting local infrastructure.

During the judge executive’s comments, Kota Young announced the county has been approved for a $36,000 grant.

click to download audioUnder new business, the sole agenda item was a resolution approving the fiscal year 2026 FLEX fund agreement, providing over $238,000 for resurfacing projects on portions of Alsobrook Road and Crider-Dulaney Road.

Judge Young also updated magistrates on the status of the old health department property on Hawthorne Street.

click to download audioDistrict 2 Magistrate Jeff Boone said they need to set a minimum bid of approximately $15,000 for the property, with agreement from District 3 Magistrate Brent Stallins.

Judge Young noted that obtaining the $15,000 minimum bid should be easier now that the County has acquired the two adjoining lots, and expressed his support for the proposed amount.

click to download audioFollowing the discussion, Judge Young reiterated that he will prepare a resolution to be presented at the next Fiscal Court meeting.

During department reports, Caldwell County Emergency Management Director Joey McCaslin shared that three people attended the weather radio campaign at the EOC building on Saturday to have their weather radios programmed. He also mentioned receiving several calls from residents who have not yet purchased their weather radios and said they plan to continue providing assistance to residents with programming their devices.

Caldwell County Animal Shelter Director Kevin Lane announced an open house on October 28 at the Caldwell Regional Career Center, where the first stainless steel kennel built by vocational students will be unveiled.

Lane also mentioned that he will attend a Dog Catchers Conference on October 12.

Before the meeting concluded, Judge Young stated that, following recent rainfall, he anticipates hearing from the U.S. Forest Service soon regarding the possibility of lifting the county’s current burn ban. He encouraged residents to watch for an announcement that could be made as early as Thursday. The burn ban is still in effect at this time.
