Harry W. Porter, known affectionately to all as Harry, left a lasting legacy of devotion to his family, an admirable career, and contributions to his community. He was born on the 17th of May 1927, in the Bronx, and passed away on the 27th of October, 2025, in Princeton, KY, at the age of 98 years old.
A dedicated family man, Harry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, June Claire Enders Porter; parents, Lester Porter and Edna Mae Reeber Porter. He is survived by his loving children, Lesley Lucille Fletcher of Eddyville, KY, and son, Russell Albert Porter of Charleston, RI. Harry was a cherished grandfather to Sabra Benedict, Lacey Porter, Josh Porter, Jordan Rose Burns, and Journey Nevaeh Travers.
Harry’s work during WWII as an engineer who designed destroyers was just the start of an extraordinary life marked by service and curiosity. A veteran of WWII, he continued his military commitment by serving valiantly in the US Navy. His community involvement was significant, with a notable membership in Joppa Lodge, where he was a Mason for 65 years. He also proudly stood as a Shriner affiliated with RIZPAH in Madisonville, KY, alongside his brothers in the York Rite.
Harry and his late wife, June, shared a love for travel, which took them around the world on cruises. Whether it was through the pages of a book or the soil of his well-tended garden, Harry’s pursuit of knowledge never waned – his brilliance echoed in the myriad of trivia he mastered over his lifetime.
Those who knew Harry understood him to be an intelligent soul, capable of profound discussion. He made an indelible imprint on the lives of those around him, carrying the lessons of his richly lived life well into the future. In the history of our family, Harry W. Porter stands tall-an enigma of his era, a guiding star for generations, and above all, a dearly loved man whose memory will be treasured always.
Harry’s life was one of honorable service, unwavering love for his family, and a ceaseless quest for knowledge. He has set forth on his final journey and will be deeply missed by all who had the fortune to cross paths with such an eminent gentleman.
